It was a disappointing day for Irish athletes when Derval O’Rourke and Michelle Carey both finished to the rear of the field in their respective 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles heats. The disappointment continued when Roisin McGettigan never got running the way she is capable of in the 3,000m steeplechase, final and she also finished to the rear of the field.
All three ran well slower than their best times, but no one was more disappointed than the athletes themselves who were all at a loss afterwards to explain exactly what went wrong. One thing for sure is that all three will bounce back from these temporary set-backs and re-establish themselves where they rightfully belong in the not too distant future.
