Beautiful Scenery coupled with impeccable organisation The 5th annual Castleward Challenge is a multi-terrain Half Marathon & 10K race set in the grounds of the beautiful National Trust Castle Ward Estate on the shores of Strangford Lough in Co. Down, Northern Ireland. This year’s race will take place on Saturday April 16th.
The race is organised by BORN2RUN Events who have recruited a massively loyal and ever-expanding following of runners since they formed over 3 years ago. Their motto is GREAT RACES IN GREAT PLACES and when you see the list of venues where their races are held it is understandable why their races have become so popular.
BORN2RUN have recently held a series of 8 races called the Belfast Telegraph RUN FOREST RUN 10K series which ensured that runners were kept ticking over all winter long when there were very few other races taking place. As the name suggests these races were all held in forests throughout Northern Ireland. Their races vary from Mountain sides to Lough shores to beaches but regardless of where they’re held, the scenery never disappoints.
Beautiful Scenery coupled with impeccable organisation is what makes BORN2RUN’s events stand out. The team behind BORN2RUN are themselves all runners and the marshals at their events are too. The fact that the races are organised by runners for runners certainly seems to be a formula that works extremely well.
The Castleward Challenge gives runners a choice of 2 distances, a half marathon and a 10K. Both routes offer a mix of forest trails and some country road taking in views of the stunning 18th century Castle Ward mansion. Many of the scenes from the early episodes of the popular HBO series Game of Thrones were filmed here and runners who are fans of the series will be able to enjoy these views as they make their way around the well planned route.
All finishers will receive a beautiful commemorative medal as well as post race refreshments.
