Seb’s COPE Triathlon Training Sessions on the Prom

Meet 2 A bigger group of us gathered in the Salthill car park this week; others had clearly been encouraged to come along upon reading last week’s blog!

Seb gave a quick summary of last weeks training session to the newcomers and then it was on with the wetsuits. With the tide out further than last Monday, we had a nice run out across the cold sand (on that note, the sand and water along Galway’s coast this year are absolutely stunningly clean, it resembles a Carribbean scene, albeit minus the heat!). So it was into the water with sets of 20, 30, 40 and 50 strokes out and back, for the last set we swam 20 strokes and then went on to our sides so Seb could check out our breathing style, very important, as you can imagine, so that you’re not ingesting gallons of salt water! Back up on the beach we were split into a cycling and a running group and then it was into transition mode; some of us had learned from the last time and had cleverly donned clothes under our wetsuits to ensure a faster time. The runners took off towards Blackrock while Seb guided the cyclists through the changeover from the bike, for those unsure this involves swinging your back leg over the rear wheel and running up to the bike station so that you can start your run as quick as possible. All 13 of us got to do each of the three tri disciplines in just over an hour so with this kind of efficient training; we’ll be back next week for more! https://www.runireland.com/forums/running-talk/general-talk/cope-triathlon-free-training-session
