5 Questions with The Sliabh League Adventure Run

0

The Sliabh League Adventure Run Weekend takes place on May 6th / 7th. We asked event organiser Eunan Quinn from Excel Sports 5 questions about the event and what participants can expect.

Q1 – Last year was the first year of the event, how did it go?

Last year we had the event late October, and was a great success. We had 300 participants and around 90% had never been to Slieve League before, and were amazed by the route and what it had to offer.

Q2 – What is changing for this year?

his year we have an early summer date May 6th / 7th, and hopefully nice early summer weather. This way participants can really enjoy the views, and better weather.
We also have made a 2 day event with a range of distances to suit all abilities, whether you are a competitive Trail runner, or a casual hiker looking for a challenge.
We have added the Marathon Trilogy challenge to the event – which is the 13k + 5k uphill + 25k events combined which can be done as a hiking challenge or a run. The times from the 3 events will be combined for overall times for the challenge.

Q3 – What kind of runner is this event aimed at?

The event is suited to all abilities whether you are a competitive trail runner, or someone getting into trail running. We have a range of distances to suit all abilities. 13k / 5k uphill / 25k or 50k events.
The 13k / 5k uphill & 25k events combined makes up the Marathon trilogy which can be done as a hiking challenge, or as a competitive / non competitive trail run.

Q4 – Tell us about the route?

The route is nothing short of spectacular, and has all imagined terrain on the loop, ranging from tarred road, gravel track, rough gravel, soft trail, scrambling across boulders, and stone steps.
At close to 600m above the Sliabh League sea cliffs, the views are amazing while descending to bunglass, and the most fantastic trail anywhere in Ireland.
Everyone who took part in last year’s inaugural event said they never experienced a route like it !

Q5 – Lastly, what do participants get for their entry fee?

Participants get an eco friendly medal, buff, post race refreshments, fully marked route, event timing, race services, option to buy a premium event T-shirt, and guarantee a route like no other in Ireland.
