O’Connor delivers an Irish record in Athlone

Kate O’ Connor (St Gerard’s Dundalk) scored an Irish U20, U23 and senior pentathlon record (subject to ratification) with a score of 4,108 points at the Irish Life Health National Combined Events in Athlone yesterday (January 20).

O’Connor’s stock continues to rise as she won the junior crown with 9.09 seconds in the 60m hurdles, 1.79m in the high jump, 12.63m in the shot put, 5.62m in the long jump and 2.20.8H in the 800m.

In Nantes, Joan Healy (Bandon) ran a swift 7.34 seconds 60m while Gina Akpe-Moses (Blackrock – Louth) ran 7.50.

At the Kildare Indoor Championships in Athlone today (January 21) the UCD trio of Claire Mooney, Alanna Lally and Ellie Harnett ran 2:02.3, 2:04.7 and 2:05.3 respectively over 800m.
