The Salthill Hotel was the place to be on Wednesday night where over 400 people joined Kevin Thonton, Gavan Henningan, Ray O’ Connor and Gerry Duffy for an evening of inspiration and motivation hosted by Tri Talking Sport and Run Ireland. The event was the brainchild of Joanne Murphy of Tri Talking Sport who launched her recent move to her new career as a sports presenter to a packed house. The eager attendees who were all seeking the secret to setting and achieving goals left the event buzzing and motivated
This was the first in a series of planned events for Tri Talking Sport and Run Ireland which also saw the launch of a new sports podcast called #spillthebeans which will be hosted by Joanne Murphy and Kevin Thornton. The podcast will focus on minority and second tier sport providing a platform for those athletes to have a voice, educating, empowering and encouraging people to achieve their goals within their chosen sport.
Speaking about the event Joanne was ‘delighted with the response and support for the night, the speakers were both inspirational and insightful; Professional triathlete Kevin Thornton spoke about his journey, despite injury to the title of fastest middle distance triathlete in Ireland. Gavan Henningan’s heartfelt and honest interview on his life before he took up extreme adventure sport left everyone in awe and on the edge of their seats for the next twist in his tale. Run Ireland’s Ray O Connor wooed the audience with his tale of success amidst his failures telling us how not to do something so we could learn from his mistakes, he had everyone laughing in their seats as he regaled his running stories for the crowd. Gerry Duffy was our headline act and as always did not disappoint, his secret to success can be adopted across all areas of life. He had us moving in our seats, literally, and you cold hear a pin drop in the room during his address. The event was better than I ever could have hoped for and I’m looking forward to rolling out the rest of the series in the coming months with the team from Run Ireland. ‘
Speaking on the night Gerry Duffy said ‘It speaks volumes for how motivated people are in Galway to pursue ambitions and goals when over 400 of them turned up for this event, that’s a staggering turnout. Congrats to Joanne Murphy and all concerned, if you’ll have me, I’ll be back.
Plans are now being finalised for similar events in Dublin and Cork
