Run and Ride For Pieta, Supported by BMW Ireland.

Thousands of people will tackle their first-ever duathlon this summer through a nationwide charity challenge from Triathlon Ireland and BMW.

Run and Ride for Pieta is a series of exciting weekly activities designed to get first-timers fit and push seasoned athletes to new levels of achievement.

The six-week series, which is supported by BMW Ireland and is completely free of charge, will raise money for Pieta House and help them support suicide prevention and mental health.

How it Works

Every week a fresh challenge will be released which must be completed by Sunday night. Run and Ride for Pieta harnesses new technology that uploads data from sports tracking devices to create a virtual leaderboard of thousands of real-life activities completed at different times and locations during the week.

The challenges come at two different levels of difficulty and are all designed to be done from home so all that’s needed is a pair of runners and a bike.

Each week things get slightly harder until the final challenge of a sprint distance duathlon of a 5km run, a 20km ride and a 2.5km run for starter level challengers or a gruelling middle distance duathlon of a 20km run, an 80km ride and a 10km run for expert-level challengers.

Triathlon Season

Ride and Run for Pieta will conclude the week before the 2020 triathlon season begins on July 20th. As part of preparations for the resumption of domestic racing, Triathlon Ireland has put in place extensive measures to help its clubs and race organisers stage events while complying with social distancing precautions. Clubs and have already resumed training activities in compliance with rules set out by Triathlon Ireland following extensive consultations with Sport Ireland.

Social Distancing

All Run and Ride for Pieta participants will be reminded to respect the government’s social distancing rules in spirit and in a letter by completing their runs and rides alone; being courteous to other pedestrians; staying within their designated areas, and by respecting the rules of the road.

Free of Charge

Run and Ride for Pieta is completely free of charge but to donate a small fee – or better still fundraise – for the Pieta House Charity, which carries out important work in the areas of mental health and suicide prevention.
