World Junior Championships Get Under Way

After last night’s Opening Ceremony it’s down to the action with the first of the Irish team competing at the World Junior championships in Moncton today. Paul Robinson (St. Coca’s AC) ran a superb race in Heat 3 to finish fourth in a time of 3:44.04, just a fraction outside his best of 3:43.83 to qualify for the final on Thursday. The race was won by Kenyan Caleb Mwangangi from Kenya in 3:42.32, who also won the World cross country championships, with another Robinson, Brett, from Australia third in 3:43.67.

Ireland’s participation in the World Junior track and field championships got under way in Moncton Canada today with two competitors in the heats of the men’s 1,500m.

 


Paul Robinson (St. Coca’s AC) and Darren McBrearty (Letterkenny AC) go in the heats of 1500m at 11am Canadian time (3pm Irish time)

There are 3 heats with 3 to qualify plus 3 fastest on times to the 12 man final on Thursday night.

All the team have settled in well, rested and ready for action.

The Irish team is staying in the main athletes village at the University of Moncton, a short walk or shuttle bus to stadium.
