Half Marathon Trail Run – Kenmare to Killarney National Park. Race follows ‘Old Kenmare Rd’ from Kenmare town centre to Muckross House in Killarney. Course Details:
First 2.6m are on tar road, from 2.6 to 6m is basically a jeep track on a ‘green road’ with some rocky/marshy areas but generally ‘good running’ – from 6m to 6.3m is an old tarmac road, so a good surface.
6.3m to 8.7m is mostly narrow tracks with little room for overtaking as its broken rocky terrain with a section of railway sleepers across a bog – thus, pretty ‘technical’ at this point –
particularly on the descent, for the last mile of this section. From 8.7m to 11m is good running on a gravel track with plenty of room for overtaking, and the last stretch is solid tar up to Muckross House
Note. Only the very start in Kenmare will involve being on National Road – we will cross the ‘Ring of Kerry’ by use of an underpass at Torc Waterfall.
