WILD WEST RUN – KILLARNEY – 25 FEBRUARY 2012

RACE LAUNCH We are pleased to announce the launch of the ‘WILD WEST RUN’ which will take place in Killarney on 25 february, 2012. The race will be a 13.1m TRAIL RUN and is open to athletes of all abilities – runners, joggers and walkers. There will be excellent prizes on offer. Post race party in one of Killarney’s top venues with music, dancing and craic guaranteed!

The TRAIL RUN has been designed under the watchful eye of former World Champion Mountain Runner and local hero, John Lenihan – who used it while training for international events.

Essentially, its a 13.1m trail which follows the final stage of the ‘Kerry Way’ – the spectacular hiking route that meanders around the Iveragh Peninsula. Athletes will leave Kenmare by ‘the Old Kenmare Rd’ and head into the mountains. After the initial climb the route ‘levels off’ as you pass ‘Windy Gap’ and heads for Killarney National Park. Theres a steep descent at the majestic Torc Waterfall while the final stage is on the flat surfaces around the paths of Muckross House and Gardens. Trail shoes  are advisable

The pilot event earlier this year attracted almost 100 competitors – of all abilities – and everyone managed to complete the course in under 3 hours – good going!

The ‘WILD WEST RUN’ is only half the story – we want all competitors to enjoy the fine attractions Killarney has to offer – from outdoor pursuits and magnificent scenery to fine food and drink – theres something for everyone! As with last time around we will be sourcing one of Killarney’s finest venues for the post-race party – plenty of music, dancing, craic and surprises!

Organisers will be working with local hotels and ‘B and B’s to secure preferential rates for our competitors – details to follow – so come on down and make a weekend of it!

WILD WEST RUN wants to thank local clubs for their help in staging the event – especially Kenmare, Gneeveguilla, An Riocht. Again, local chartities will benefit from the event also!

Looking forward to seeing you!
