The Westport Triathlon 2011

Less than 6 weeks to go until the town of Westport again welcomes some neoprened triathletes for the Pulse Westport Triathlon 2011. Entries are open and Pulse Triathlon has plans well under way for a fun day of racing and activities in Westport.

The race itself features some of the most picturesque areas in Westport with a 750m swim in the harbour, 22.5km cycle along the coast road of Clew Bay passing the foot of majestic Croagh Patrick and is topped off with a fabulous 5k run through Westport House grounds.

“Gracie’s Bar” at Westport House will also be the venue for the prize giving and hospitality post race and is a great opportunity to make a full family day out of the event by following up with a visit to the historic Westport House and its Adventure Park.
There are many local faces already entered and Pulse Triathlon Club hopes to encourage many more Last year the race was part of the 25.5 Triathlon series and won by local celebrity triathlete and adventure racer Padraig Marrey.

The Westport Triathlon is organized with kind co-operation of Westport House, Tesco Westport, Westport Town Council, An Garda Siochána, Westport Swimming Club, Murrisk Development Association, Civil Defence, Irish Red Cross, The Quay School, Mayo Sports Partnership and Westport Coast Guard.

Club Background

Pulse Triathlon club is one of the largest and most prominent Triathlon clubs in Ireland with over 150 members. In 2011 a Westport branch was formed and now has membership of over 30 members who train together regularly in the Westport region.

Our membership covers all age groups and is made up of people who are brand new to the sport; those who have been competing at one or more of the disciplines and those visionaries who have been competing in all three since they were knee high.

Our mission is to promote all levels of triathlon participation in a competitive yet friendly, supportive and enjoyable environment. You don’t have to be super fit or buy super expensive equipment in order to participate.
