0

from Athletics Northern Ireland UK Athletics have announced that the 2008 Athletics Awards evening, sponsored by Heidsieck & Co Monopole Champagne, will take place at the on Saturday 29 November 2008. It’s time again to nominate for the UK Athletics Regional Awards. Nominate your club, your coaches and officials who have made a difference over the past year. The presentation ceremony will take place at Athletics House on 20th November (further details TBC), and nominations close on 31st October.

Last year some clubs were disappointed that they did not win anything. Awards are based on nominations coming in to the office, so if you haven’t nominated, deserving clubs & coaches will miss out.

The form is available to download from a dedicated section in the fixtures section so send in now!

If a category has no/very few nominations, a panel from Athletics Northern Ireland may also put forward nominees who have made a positive impact through their club/athletes etc. Category winners are submitted to UK Athletics and could make the shortlist for the UK-wide awards.

The awards once again give the national governing body the opportunity to reward and recognise the invaluable input of people from across the athletics community, from coaches to officials, athletes to club volunteers.

The UK Awards programme will work through a series of stages that will culminate with the UK Awards Night on Saturday 29 November 2008, at the National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham

Every Nation and Regional winner receives a bottle of Heidsieck & Co Monopole Champagne as well as other recognition at Award presentation evenings throughout the UK.

For more information on these events you can visit the websites for each Home Nation Athletics body.

A full report on every winner will be available on our website when all awards are concluded and we will be featuring a series of articles about the winners between now and the UK Awards evening.
