Aisling Coppinger (W35) and Mags Greenan (W50) won individual titles in the European masters mountain running championships in Switzerland. The W35/40 team with Anne Sandford (W40) and Zoe Melling (W35) won silver medals. The M45/50 team won bronze medals

– Bernard Fortune wins Leinster Championship!
(Monday June 30th – Rene Borg)

Only John Lenihan could hold off Bernard Fortune at Lugnacoille yesterday, but by securing second-place Bernard had done enough to be crowned this year’s Leinster Champion before the final race of the series at Mt. Leinster.

Big congratulations to Bernard Fortune, who joins Aisling Coppinger, the female champion, who had already secured the women’s title at Glenmacnass.

– Leinster League Champions!
(Thursday July 3rd – Rene Borg)

Yesterday’s Sorrell Hill race completed Barry Minnock’s defense of his Leinster League title after he won his 6th race of the League (having almost made this seven when he clawed back to 2nd spot at Scalp after getting lost).

It was fitting that he cemented his victory in this year’s summer league in a closely fought duel against hill-running great and clubmate John Brooks, winner of Brockagh the previous week.

In the women’s, Aoife Joyce had secured her first Leinster League title last week, but won an impressive victory at Sorrell Hill hard-pressed by Rathfarnham’s Donna Mahon and Laura Flynn and Sara Moores. With 5 victories and 3 2nd places, Aoife showed remarkable consistency over a long season to clinch the title in a year when 5 different women won LL races (Mags Greenan, Erin Roberts, Jenny McAuley, and Anne Ormsby being the others).

Join me in congratulating this year’s overall winners.
