Turf Guy Endurance Challenge

Turf Guy Challenge 2010 Connemara was full of adventure on the 30th October as competitors from all over Ireland fought it out to become the inaugural Turf King/Queen of the Gaelforce Events, Turf Guy Endurance Challenge. The Turf Guy endurance challenge was no easy feat for even the fittest of athletes. This event was set to test competitors’ mental and physical abilities while pushing them to their limits and beyond, and that is exactly what it did!

The course saw 350 competitors start the 5km off road run through bog and forest, before encountering the numerous obstacles set out for them such as the Turfinator, Elvis Dangles, the Entrails and many more! Competitors found themselves getting stuck in bog holes, swimming across rivers, climbing through tunnels, facing a 6 metre leap into the cold Atlantic, carrying home the turf, finding their balance in a tidal pond and much more. Planning and building the course alone took over 3months. First to complete all the obstacles and cross the line was Kevin Grant from Limerick in a time of 1 hour and 26minutes. Kate Smith was crowned our Turf Queen of the event coming in at a time off 1 hour and 57 minutes. The challenge saw a really mix of abilities and personalities take part, with some competitors even competing in fancy dress for charity! The event was the final event on the Gaelforce Events Calendar for the 2011 racing season. The event will be back in 2011.
