Try a Tri in 2009!

from Munster Express It is the same story this time each year: a promise to work off those festive indulgences, only to lose enthusiasm after just a couple of weeks! You might think it daft, but read on to see how Ireland’s fastest growing sport, triathlons, might just be the thing to get you up off the couch.
Often thought to be only for fitness fanatics, triathlon is in fact for everyone. The three sports involved are swimming, cycling and running, and up and down the country all ages and levels of fitness take part.

The distances for each part of a triathlon aren’t always of Herculean proportions either. In fact, you can choose from very short races right up to the mythical Ironman. With a small amount of regular training in advance of a race, just about anyone can complete one.

For beginners, cycling and running tend not to provide as much a barrier as swimming can. To help, Carrick Tri are running a 12-week course of swimming lessons, beginning this Wednesday night, January 14th, in the Waterford Crystal Leisure Centre. The course caters for total beginners to advanced swimmers and costs €80.

If swimming is not your cup of tea, there’s always the other two sports. After the success of last year’s duathlon (run-cycle-run) we are delighted to announce the date for our second race.

It all happens in picturesque Rathgormack on Saturday March 21st, at noon. Entry will be open online soon and places are limited to 125.

So, if you’re interested in swimming lessons, improving your fitness or getting ready to take on our duathlon, why not our Waterford Area coordinator, Malachy, on 086-8247605, or check out www.tricarrick.com
