from TríSpórt Connemara triathlon club, TríSpórt, has added two athletes to its
sponsorship roster for 2013, as the club prepares for its annual
duathlon race later this month.
2012 Irish Adventure Race Series champion, Marie Ní Bhaoill, and Zena
Ní Dhuinn Bhig who, in her Ironman debut in Bolton last year, finished
4th in her age group, will be provided with sponsored equipment for
2013, including a state of the art triathlon time-trial bike worth
over €2,500.
Marie and Zena will join Irish Ironman record holder, Joyce Wolfe and
Irish international age-group triathlete, Tom O’Dowd as sponsored
TríSpórt athletes.
“It’s great to able to provide Marie and Zena with sponsorship,
particularly in light of their fantastic season in 2012,” said
TríSpórt chairperson, Pádraic Quinn. “We already have one of
Ireland’s greatest long-distance female triathletes in the form of
Joyce, and Tom has been a dominant athlete on the west of Ireland
scene for the past number of years. We’re fortunate that we have
quality club sponsors such as TG4, Velotec and Cogaslann Agatha that
assist us in helping out local athletes.”
TríSpórt, which now boasts over 80 members, also funds its athlete
sponsorship programme by hosting sports events in the Connemara
Gaeltacht, and coming up next is the Conamara Duathlon, to be held in
An Cheathrú Rua (Carraroe) on 23 February.
“The Conamara Duathlon is a great event, short enough for beginners
but with enough of a challenge to test the best,” said Quinn. “It was
won last year by triathlon World Championship bronze medallist, Con
Doherty, and we really hope that as many people as possible turn up
for this year’s event so that we can strengthen our club further and
support our members.”
The duathlon, a 3.5km run followed by a 20km cycle and finished off
with the same run again, costs €20 to enter and will be held at 3pm on
the 23rd of this month. Registration is available at
www.triathlonireland.com and further information is at www.trisport.ie
