Trilogy Junior Aquathon

0

Trilogy’s Junior Aquathon is Irelands only pre-elite race, an event dedicated to the triathlon talent of tomorrow. The race is only open to athletes aged 12 to 19, with four waves and four prize categories -u13, u15, u17 and u19.

The race begins in the pool, with a lane counted swim (Varying distances), a sprint through transition to grab runners and dump goggles, before racing around the walking track that surrounds the race venue (varying distances).

While there is no bike stage in an aquathon event, the rules and set-up is much the same as triathlon – everyone races against a continuous clock, the event will have split times, and the winner is always the person who finishes all stages first.

The run course is largely flat, with a slight rise near the Borris Road area.

Portlaoise Leisure Centre opened in late 2007 and brought to Portlaoise the very latest in state-of-the-art sporting facilities. The centre boasts a 25 metre pool, a fully equipped Health Club, 2 UEFA Standard Astro-turf pitches, playing fields, childrens play area and coffee shop.

Trilogy’s Junior Aquathon will be using the leisure centre as its base for all race activities:

Registration will be at the centre, close to reception on Saturday morning (7:00am to 8:30am)
The Race Briefing will be held in the reception lobby of the centre (9:00am, 13 June)
The swim will take place in the pool
The transition area will be located immediately behind the pool
The Run leg will both start and finish at the leisure centre
The finish line will be located within the grounds of the leisure centre
Results / prize giving will be at the leisure centre
