Tri Limits Sperrin Duathlon Race 1

0

For the second year running the weather had threatened to prevent the running of the first Tri Limits Duathlon of the year. After a slight delay the athletes finally got to the start line, with Adam Speer being the man to beat after his first win the Saturday previous. When the starter gun went off it was Adam Speer, Sean McFadden and Stephen Harkens leading the field.

After the initial lap of the Lough Adam was first back into transition, having a slight lead over the rest of the chasing pack. In the woman’s race Eimear O’Brien was running well and was first out onto the bike, well in front of the second place female. The group of men chasing the leader down included Sean McFadden, Stephen Harkens , Gavin Crawford , Jonathon Dempsey and Kris Muldoon all trying to pull the front man back in.

Adam wasn’t getting it all his own way out infront; having Sean McFadden pushing hard on the way back to transition. Adams’ bike chain came of, causing him to lose his lead to Sean for a short time. Behind the lead pair Stephen Harkens was gaining time putting in a great bike ride to keep himself close with a run still to do.

After transition it was Adam who was still out in front with the chase group hot on his heels for the final run. The followers were unable to match Adams pace on the last leg allowing him to take his second win in two weeks….in second place was Stephen Harkens with Sean McFadden close behind. In the women’s race Eimear held onto her lead and finished well up the field in 15th place over all, in the second place it was Margaret Kelly and in third place was a very happy Bronagh O’Gara.
