The Tinahely Challenge Saturday September 13 2014 Run or walk 32km in the beautiful surroundings of Tinahely, Co Wicklow. Start times: 9.00am for runners; 9.15am for walkers. In aid of Pieta House, the centre for the prevention of suicide and self harm, this new exciting event takes walkers and runners along the Tinahely Loop, the latest addition to Tinahely’s series of walking trails. For the running event, runners can run in relay or solo, starting in Tinahely village centre. The 1st leg will be 9.2km, taking in the Railway Walk, Garyhoe, before the hand-over at Ballycumber Ford. The 2nd leg will be 12.6km from Ballcumber Ford via the Kyle loop and finishing at Curravanish Ford. The final leg will be 7.7km and will be from Curravanish Ford via the Wicklow Way and Muskeagh Hill; finishing in the village centre. The demanding walking challenge will consist of a 32km one day walking challenge taking in flat and hill walking trails around the South Wicklow village. Walkers set off from the village centre and head to the Tinahely Railway Walk, before tackling the hills around Garyhoe and Kyle, returning via Mangan’s Lane for lunch at the Community Hall. At this stage walkers will have completed 20.5 km. The afternoon leg brings walkers back through the village and onto the Wicklow Way via Crossbridge and Farneese ascending Muskeagh Hill and returning to the finish line in the village centre.
