Runners flocked to New York City
An estimated 50,000 runners gathered on Staten Island on the morning of November 4th for the infamous TCS New York City Marathon.
The participants made their way through to Brooklyn, Queens and on to Manhattan. They they ran uptown to the Bronx, before returning to Manhattan for the final stretch through Central Park, finishing 26.2 miles later.

Winning Female
Mary Keitany from Kenya won the women’s division for the fourth time in a time of 2:22:48 – the second fastest time in the race history.

Also from Kenya was second place Vivian Cheruiyot at 2:26:02. Defending champ Shalane Flanagan from the US finished in 2:26:22 at third place.

Three Americans finished in the top six of the Women’s division for the first time since 1978: 3. Shalane Flanagan (2:26:22) 4. Molly Huddle (2:26:44) 6. Des Linden (2:27:51)
Winning Male
Lelisa Desisa from Ethiopia took the top spot in the men’s division with a time of 2:05:59.

Following closely with a time of 2:06:01 was Shura Kitata, and defending champion Geoffrey Kamworor took third place in 2:06:26.
Men’s Wheelchair
American Daniel Romanchuk came out on top in 1:36:21, having recently won the Chicago title on October 7th. He is the first American to win the New York City Marathon Men’s Wheelchair division. At 20-years-old he is also the youngest ever winner.

Marcel Hug took second place with 1:36:22 while David Weir followed just a second behind, coming in third place with 1:36:23.
Women’s Wheelchair
Manuela Schar won the women’s title for the second time in a row in 1:50:27.

Second place was claimed by American Tatyana McFadden in 1:50:27. Zou Lihong came third with a time of 1:56:14.
