The annual Terenure 5 mile road race will take place on Sunday 13th May 2012 with over 1000 participants expected. This event, which is organised by Sportsworld Running Club, is open to experienced and non-experienced runners of all levels and everyone is equally welcome to get involved!
This is the 28th year of this race and organisers are hoping that it will be the biggest and most successful to date!
At the launch on 6th March, Mr. Paddy Lynch, Chairperson of Sportsworld Running Club welcomed attendees and introduced guest speakers, Mr. Maurice Redmond, Chairperson of Special Olympics Eastern Region, Mr. Patrick Nally, Director of Marketing, RSA & Ms. Lucinda Creighton TD, Minister for European Affairs.
Mr. Redmond expressed his delight and gratitude to the race organising committee for choosing Special Olympics Eastern region as the charity partner.
Mr. Nally highlighted his delight at RSA’s involvement as Premier Sponsor for the race and hopes to see many of his colleagues participate on race day.
Ms. Creighton gave her endorsement to the race and expressed her delight at the manner in which the local community, businesses and local residents alike have embraced this event. Lucinda has given her commitment to support the race by signing up to participate in it on 13th May.
The race takes place three weeks before the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon and is an ideal way to assess how your training is progressing. In addition for women who are planning to run the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon, the organisers will accept your time from the Terenure 5 mile when allocating starting positions so there is no better way for you to ensure a good starting position!
Places will be limited so early registration is advised. To register or to find out more information about the race, including details of the race course please visit www.terenure5mile.com. This year €5 from every entry will be donated to support the work of Special Olympics Eastern Region so as well as participating in a fun and healthy event you will be showing your support for one of Ireland’s most respected charities.
