 About Sportsworld & the Five Mile: Sportsworld Running Club was founded in 1983 and is based in Bushy Park, Terenure. Over the years it has developed into one of the biggest running clubs in Ireland with a current membership of over 200 men and women.

In its short history it has had remarkable success winning National, Dublin and Eastern Region titles in both men and women’s categories.

In 1985 the club organised the very first Dublin 5 Mile Classic and since then the event has gone from strength to strength and is now established as one of the premier road races of the Irish Athletics calendar.

Sportsworld are proud to be the promoter of this great event which has attracted many of the worlds leading runners to our capital city culminating in Ismael Kiruis’ World best time of 22:07 set in 1993. At the same time, we make sure the needs of the fun runner and walkers are not forgotten.

Getting to the race HQ & Start line: The race headquarters are at St. Paul’s Secondary School, Limekiln lane, off St. Peters Rd, Walkinstown. The school is within a couple of hundred meters of the race start and finish areas.

The race starts and finishes within 400m of each other, which is approximately seven kilometres from the city centre.

The following buses leave you on St. Peters Road:

Bus No. 50 (College Street/ Hawkins Street Junction)
Bus No. 77 A (College Street/ Hawkins Street Junction)

While the 15a, 150 and 54a will leave you at the Whitehall roundabout on Greentrees Road – 500 meters from the start.
Entry limit of 2 000: Please note that once the entry limit has been met, no further entries can be accepted regardless of the date when submitted.

Parking: There is parking available beside St. Paul’s Secondary School on Limekiln lane, off St. Peters Rd. where the race will start. Please do not park in the church carpark.
Past race refreshments: Sportsworld Running Club will provide free post-race refreshments at St. Paul’s Secondary School to all race participants.

The Course: The five mile course is a relatively flat double loop, starting 400m before the Whitehall Road Roundabout and travelling along Templeville Rd to Wainsfort Roundabout It turns left and runs the full length of Wainsfort Rd and turns left a the KCR junction onto Kimmage Rd West and then left onto Whitehall Road. It runs the full length of Whitehall Rd to the Roundabout and now repeats this lap. On the second time up Whitehall Road before the Roundabout it turns right onto Whitehall Rd West making the final 400m section a flat straight finish. The course is marked in miles.

Baggage: Runners are advised to come prepared to run. There will be limited baggage facilities at race headquarters, i.e. St. Paul’s Secondary School off St. Peters Road.
Awards: To Be Advised

Prizes: A large prize fund will be distributed among the first ten senior male and female runners, as well as all the usual Masters categories (o/40 to o/65).

Charity: Any profits arising from the race will be shared with Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin. We would also request race entrants, if intending to raise monies for charity through their race participation, to consider raising funds for the hospital.
