10K Results The Mattie Carden Memorial 10k Run/Walk took place in Enniscrone, Co. Sligo on 10th March 2012 in aid of the Irish Kidney Association. Enniscrone was awoken to the symphony of feet as 400 runners and walkers took to the streets in memory of local man, Mattie Carden. The event was organised by the Carden family and opened by former All-Star and current Sligo footballer, Eamon O’ Hara.

Mattie was the lucky recipient of a kidney transplant in 1989. He underwent the transplant in Beaumont Hospital after having been on a waiting list for four years. Prior to his transplant he had received dialysis at Sligo General Hospital.

The Carden family decided to organise the event to mark the 20th anniversary of Mattie’s passing. They also wanted to raise much needed funds for the Irish Kidney Association in order to show their appreciation for all the care and support that was shown to Mattie and themselves while on dialysis, during and after his transplant.

The event was a great success and a very enjoyable day was had by all. The Carden family would like to thank all those concerned for their support on the day; participators, organisers, volunteers and those that made donations. They would also like to thank the IKA and in particular the Sligo branch of the IKA, for their support in the lead up to and on the day of the event.
