Sligo city triathlon club metalman swim series

from Sean O’Doherty The penultimate tound of the Sligo city triathlon club metalman swim series takes place Saturday 5th September at 5pm at rosses point beach. The series, which is a league format, has been running for the last five weeks with over 45 swimmers taking part. Swimmers age from 13 to mid forties and everywhere in between with a full spectrum of abilities.

The series has given us the opportunity to raise funds for special olympics ireland as well as bringing open water swim races back to Sligo after a long absence. The last swim races took place in the late 90’s in lough gill. The natural amenities we have right on our doorstep here in sligo are second to none and the participation levels have also shown there Is an appetite amongst local swimmers for this kind of competition, we aim to be back next year even bigger and better" says event organizer shane o’doherty.

With prizes to be determined, in what has turned out to be a tight league table, during Saturdays final race it promises to be an exciting event with the rnli and civil defence on hand to provide race support.

Spectators are encouraged to come along and support the swimmers with great views of the event from the cliffs

New swimmers are very welcome on Saturday and can register on the day in the tosses point car park from 4pm.

Presentation of prizes will take place in harrys bar in rosses point at 6:30pm.

The Sligo city triathlon club are running a supersprint distance triathlon in the regional sports complex on October 18th
