SIAB Schools’ Cross Country International 2008

0

and Schools’ Senior Cross Country International against Wales at the ALSAA Sports Complex The KitKat Irish Schools’ cross country teams performed creditably on a very picturesque course at Strathallan School in Perth, Scotland on Friday 28th March. The Junior Boys’ Team finished in 2nd place with the Monaghan twins from St Colman’s Newry, Patrick and Andrew, leading them home in 7th and 10th place. The key to their success was that they packed well with Ruari Finnegan (St Eunan’s), Stephen Attride (Knockbeg Carlow) and Chaoimhin Kelly (St MacCartan’s) finishing just behind them.

The best performance of the day from an Irish point of view came from Eimear Black (Dominican Belfast) and Tara Jameson (Dominican Wicklow) who finished in 6th and 7th respectively in the Inter Girls’ Race. With Joanne Mills, Ballyclare High School, and Ellie Hartnett, Loreto Dalkey, backing up the team finished in 3rd place.

England dominated all four races but Ryan Creech (Glanmire CC Cork) had the satisfaction of finishing among them in 7th place in the Inter Boys’ Race.

Schools’ Senior Cross Country International against Wales at the ALSAA Sports Complex

Grace Sweeney, Loreto Foxrock, was a class apart at this Schools’ Senior Cross Country International against Wales at the ALSAA Sports Complex in Dublin. Grace went to the front from the gun and was joined by team mates Tekea Gebrezgi, Lorraine McCarthy and Claire Madigan. As the race progressed Grace pulled away and won with ease. The KitKat Irish Schools’ Team with five in the first six took the team award from the Welsh Schools’.

The Boys’ race was much closer with two Irish, Niall McCormack and Michael McKillop, and Adam Bitchell and Ricky Challinor, of Wales leading the field. It was the greater strength of Adam which saw him pull away from Niall McCormack, Clonmel High School, over the last 400m that won the race. Good backing up by Michael McKillop, John Travers, Sean McCafferty and Lee Stenson meant that the Irish Schools’ won the team event from the Welsh.
