None If you are already planning on running in this year’s Lifestyle Sports – adidas Dublin Marathon on Oct 27th you will want to be sure the money you raise goes to a good cause, and there’s no better cause than young children who are suffering from serious illnesses. The children’s charity Barretstown is seeking individuals or teams of sponsored walkers and runners to raise much-needed funds to help them help these young children to have some Serious Fun. The children who come to Barretstown have spent a long time in hospital and been denied ordinary childhood experiences such as making friends, developing independence and social skills. At Barretstown they are encouraged to step outside their comfort zone and take on challenges such as being on a stage in front of others or climbing a 40ft tower. Through their successes they stop seeing themselves as sick kids and use their new found confidence and skills to deal with the challenges of their everyday lives.
This is the 29th year of the Lifestyle Sports – adidas Dublin Marathon, which is run through the historic Georgian streets of Dublin and this year includes a reason to get all the kids involved too with a 3 Mile Family Fun Run on the morning of the race.
The money raised by last year’s Barretstown supporters ensured that more children got the chance to experience some Serious Fun at Barretstown this year. By taking Barretstown as your nominated charity for this year’s Marathon, they will ensure that more children with cancer and other serious illnesses get the opportunity to visit the Kildare-based camp next year.
