Run Galway Bay – A Jewel in the Running Calendar on the Wild Atlantic Way

Run Galway Bay, one of the most iconic running events on the racing calendar in Ireland, will take place on October 1st on the shores of Galway Bay and is promising to be another sell out event for Galway City The 2016 edition of the event will see over 3,000 people take on a 10K, Half Marathon or Full Marathon distance event. Starting and finishing in the Claddagh, the route takes in the Wild Atlantic Way along the Salthill Prom before returning to the electric atmosphere at the finish line in the Claddagh via South Park.

With three distances to choose from, runners, walkers and joggers of all abilities should have no problem completing at least one of the events. The flat, fast and friendly 10K is perfect for those who are looking for an excuse to make a trip to the party capital of the West, have some fun and chill out with friends celebrating the achievement of completing the event.

For those with a competitive appetite the fast and flat route should interest anyone chasing a late season personal best. Galway Chamber are encouraging companies to enter teams of 4 people from the same company to battle it out for the Chamber Challenge title across the men’s, women’s or mixed teams in the 10k race. All companies or businesses are welcome to enter, even if not a member of a Chamber.

Athletics Club runners not only chase individual glory but they now they can also aim for a share of the €2,000 prize fund in the Club Challenge as part of the Half Marathon event. Athletes must be registered AAI members, with €1,000 up or grabs for both the fastest male and female teams on the day.

With less than 4 weeks to go to race day, time is running out for race registrations with both the marathon and half marathon on the cusp of selling out.
