Roisin McGettigan qualifies for final in Steeplechase Roisin McGettigan qualified comfortably for a place in the final of the 3000m Steeplechase by finishing 2nd in Heat 2. McGettigan seemed composed and in control the whole way round as she maintained her place in the leading group of 5 before moving up to second place. She made a strong sprint at the end for 1st place but was just pipped at the post by Russian athlete Tatiana Petrova. McGettigan finished in a season best of 9.26.92 and looks set to run a great race in the final on Sunday at 2:30pm Irish time.
Fionnuala Britton failed to qualify from Heat 1 finishing in 10th place in her heat but running a seson best in 9.43.57.
Alastair Cragg earlier failed to progress out of his heat finishing 8th in in the men’s 1500m Round 1 Heat 2 in a time of 3.44.90
