A chill wind made today’s Harlequin Adventure Duathlon a tough task for particpants. First back, in a new course record of 1:31:09, to the warmth of the Harlequin Hotel and the welcoming spread of soup and sandwiches was Westport’s Con Doherty. Con, a previous winner of the Harlequin Duathlon, was 3rd in last year’s Junior World Triathlon Championships and certainly set a tough pace at the front of the pack.
Con had a convincing lead on 2nd place which was Brendan Conway, in 1:39:25, who was followed closely by David Sands 1:40:34.
First female to cross the line was Anne Marie Egan in a very fast 1:56:36, with Colette Sweeney not far behind in 1:57:33. Mary Daly was third lady in 2:04:04.
Category winners were O’40 Noel Gibbons and Anne Heaney and O’50 Noel Brady and Pauline Moran.
The Mini Triathlon, 3k run-10k bike-3k run, was won by Dave Hanahoe in 42:40 and first lady was Mags Hession in 55:16.
