Results of the 2nd Annual Lanesborough Triathlon

Building on last year’s success the Lanesborough Triathlon was again a fantastic day out. The beautiful location was complimented by fabulous sunshine and a great warm and friendly atmosphere. Fresh from competing in TriAthlone Sprint Relay yesterday, fifteen year old Daragh Bailey had an absolutely fantastic race to become the overall winner in 1:17:36. He was closely followed home by Riona Ni Mhuireartaigh (3D Tri) in 1 :17:58.

The Galway Girls relay team were 3rd home and first relay in a very respectable 1:19:59.

2nd Male was Alasdair Felton (UK) in 1:20:09 and 3rd Male was Fabien Heinen (3d Tri) in 1.22.07.

2nd Female was Noreen O’Toole (Pulse West) 1:29:39 and 3rd Female was Michelle Heraughty 1:32:10.

A few extra last minute participants gave the swimmers some competition, as when the swim got underway, resident swans joined in to lead the swimmers down the river and under the bridge, they unfortunately had not brought their bikes for the cycle leg of the race.

Prize giving ceremony was held in the Community Hall after the race, where participants and their families enoyed a generous spread of teas, coffee, sandwiches and buns.

Many congratulations to all that took part and special thanks to all the marshalls, volunteers, Water Safety crews both lifeguards and boats, an Garda Siochana and all who helped or supported in any way. The event was a resounding success due to the help and support of all these people.
