New 5k Road Race for Wexford Town We are pleased to announce a new road race for Wexford Town, The Ben5k. The race is open to both runners and walkers of all levels and will take place on the 1st March, 2015.
The inspiration for this race is our hero Ben Wadding who sadly died, aged 3, after a brave battle with cancer. This is a 100% charity event and all proceeds will go to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.
The course begins on the new road (Park Lane) close to the Faythe Harriers astro pitch. Entrants will run down to the Carcur Road and turn left towards town. After approximately 400 metres, the runners / walkers will make a u-turn at the traffic island and make their way back out the Carcur Road towards Ferrycarrig. At the Ferrycarrig Railway Bridge, the course turns left on to the Old Hospital Road. Here, participants will encounter the one and only hill on the course. It’s sharp but it’s short and will be over before you know it! Athletes will make their way in the Old Hospital Road until they reach the new roundabout where they will turn left and head back up Park Lane, to the finish. It promises to be quite a fast course.
We hope to make this an event that’s different from other road races. There will be lots of fanfare and music to see everybody around the course, as well as other surprises. More information can be found on www.ben5k.com and you can register at the following link:
