Kells Pink Ribbon Run/Walk
The Kells Pink Ribbon Run/Walk will start in the beautiful grounds of Drewstown House. The route then follows the shores of the picturesque Drewstown Lake and onto the varying landscape of forest and bogland of the Girley Bog Eco Walk. Girley Bog is a site of considerable conservation significance, as it comprises a raised bog, a rare habitat in the E.U. and one that’s becoming increasingly scarce and under threat in Ireland. The walk is looped, so you will finish back at Drewstown House.
Start Times
The more athletic among you can choose to run the route, and the run will start at 2.45pm from Drewstown House. For those who prefer to take in the scenery at a more leisurely pace, the walk will commence at 3pm.
Terrain
This is a cross country route and the terrain is flat and uneven, including woodland, bogland and forestry roads. As with any cross-country event, you should expect parts of the terrain to be wet and muddy.
Equipment
There will be water stops en route. Because of the cross-country nature of the walk, walking boots are recommended. We also suggest that you bring rain gear just in case.
The Finish Line
The run/walk will finish back at Drewstown House and each person who completes the course will be presented with a medal. After the walk is complete, there will be a BBQ and music to celebrate the event and later in the evening, many of the local hostelries will host more entertainment events.
Parking
Drewstown House will have only a limited number of parking spaces available so we encourage Walkers to car pool, or get a gang of friends to travel by mini-bus or taxi. We will be operating a Park & Ride service in Kells, with free shuttle buses to/from the venue. Buses will leave from each car park at regular intervals, starting at 12 noon sharp and returning after the Event.
