All you have to do is register in advance at www.parkrun.org.uk/register.aspx to receive a unique barcode which allows you to receive details after each run of your time, age and score.
Sports Development Officer, Paddy McGrattan, said: “The concept has been operating successfully for 16 years in Britain – the first parkrun started in Bushey Park, London – and now around 50 are held every weekend.
“It is friendly way of getting people into physical activity, individuals compete against themselves only, and it is easy to make new friends or sport companions.
“We are now adapting it for use in Ireland and the Waterworks run will be our first event. Once we are established at the Waterworks though we hope to extend it out to other parts of the city, and then it will hopefully go even further afield” said Paddy.
Incentives are supplied for those who complete milestones like 50 or 100 runs and more information is available at www.parkrun.org.uk/waterworks
The event is being organised by a partnership of the North Belfast Harriers, Belfast City Council and Sport Northern Ireland.
