Not Such A Long Way From Clare To Here

from Galway City Harriers GCH/Fit4Life On TourThe excitement has been building at Fit4Life for weeks now, the tension is almost unbearable – no, it’s not the imminent arrival of Santa Claus next month, but rather the next official GCH/Fit4Life outing, this time to Co. Clare for the 34th annual Bernie Meaney memorial 5K road-race on Sunday December 14th. Full details of this event are as below:

St. Mary’s Athletic Club, Kilmurry McMahon, Co. Clare – Sunday, 14th December

Start-time: 1:30pm
Entry-Fee: €10 – payable on the day
Prizes:

First 6 men and ladies
First 3 masters men (V40/V45/V50/V60)
First 2 masters ladies (V35/V40/V45/V50)
First 3 junior men and ladies
First 4 mens teams (4 to score)
First 3 ladies teams (4 to score)
First 6 novices confined for the James Hanrahan Shield
Contact: 065-9053170

While there is an obvious competitive element to the above race (GCH’s Gerry Ryan won the men’s race in 2007 in a time of 14m47s), we see this as more of an opportunity to have some fun on a club outing and to get in some good exercise before the excesses of the Christmas season to follow. There has always been a good relationship between GCH and the local athletic club in Kilmurry, so we’d really like to get a large number of our runners out to support their event and build on the great success we had recently at the Fit4Life event in Craughwell over the same distance.

Note – GCH will be arranging a bus to this event, departing Westside library at 11am. There will be a nominal charge (subject to confirmation). Please contact Bernie Kelly as soon as possible to confirm your place. There is of course nothing to stop you making your own way to Kilmurry on the day – I’m sure Bernie will only be too happy to give you directions.

Bígí ann agus beidh an-craic againn ar an lá!
