NI Selection Deadline for Commonwealth Youth Games

From Athletics Northern Ireland The Athletics Northern Ireland Team for the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India in October will be selected early during the week beginning 14th July.
Therefore only performances achieved up to and including Sunday 13th July will be taken into consideration by the selection committee.

It is extremely unlikely that Athletes who have not achieved the published standards will be considered for selection.

In addition since numbers on the Athletics team are limited, achievement of the standard is no guarantee of selection.

Please note that only 1 athlete per event is permitted. This is a stipulation by the Indian organisers.

The NI Commonwealth Games Council will make the final selection from the list of Ahtletics NI nominees.

All performances must be achieved during an official competition in conformity with IAAF Rule 12.
(Performances in ‘District schools’, School Sports Days etc will not be accepted).
Indoor performances are acceptable subject to the level of competition and officiating.
Hand timed performances in 100m, 200m, 400m, 100/110mH and 400mH will not be accepted.
Performances achieved in mixed events (between male and female participants) will not be accepted (IAAF Rule 147).

The III Commonwealth Youth Games Pune 2008 is an opportunity for Pune to figure prominently on the world map. It is for the first time in the history of the Commonwealth Youth Games that all 71 countries will participate in this event – more than 2000 athletes and officials will participate in 9 sports disciplines viz. Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestling.
