NI Athletes Fill Vacant European Cup Spots

European Cup teams and Junior team for Mannheim international The European Cup women’s team includes just one change with Claire Wilkinson stepping in for Ballymena club mate Zoe Brown who has failed to shake off an injury in time. Amy Foster (North Down A.C.) steps into the vacant 200m spot. The European Cup men team shows several changes from that announced last Monday. Tom Carey (City of Derry A.C.) is rewarded for a season best 52.60 at the weekend with a place in the 400 Hurdles.

Athletics Ireland have announced their European Cup Team for the 21-22nd June. The Women’s team will compete in Leiria, Portugal in the 1st League Group A, the team contains many of the team bound for Beijing. Kelly Reid has been chosen to race over 800m, Zoe Brown in the Pole Vault and Amy Foster in the 4x100m Relay.

The Men’s team will compete in the 2nd League Group A in Tallin, Estonia. The men’s 4×400m relay team will also have Beijing qualification on their mind with a strong squad named including Paul McKee, who also races over 400m. The 4x100m includes Paul Brizzel and Jason Smyth. Other NI athletes are North Down’s Michael McConkey in the javelin and Jeremy Harper in the shot.

The are several events that selection has been left to be confirmed, selection for these events will be finalized on Monday 16th June.

Athletics Ireland are pleased to announce the team for Mannheim, Germany Junior International on 21-22nd June.

The team has been selected to give athletes who either have or are very close to World Junior Qualification standards the opportunity to compete at a high international level. The team includes two exciting talents at 400m in Brian Gregan and Curtis Woods. Middle distance star Ciara Mageean will take a big step forward in competing in the 1500m.
