His throw of 17.68m added 12cm to his previous best and puts him within sight of his father’s 1991 Irish record of 18.07m.

The highlight of the meet was Brian McGovern (Yonkers, N.Y.) qualifying for the IC4A Championships in the men’s pole vault with a leap of 4.80 meters (15 feet, nine inches). Having already won the competition, McGovern then made three very good attempts at 5.00 m (16′4).
