MUKNO MANIA FESTIVAL
Festival organisers have now confirmed that the 2009 Festival will this year feature a Sprint Triathlon.This colourful and sportive spectacle will take place on Saturday 18th July commencing at10am.
Regardless of whether you are an experienced Triathlon participant or not the Muckno Mania Festival Triathlon will be of interest to you. The organisers are a dedicated and committed bunch who offer excellent hospitality and welcome you to one of the most scenic parts of the Country.
Often described as the Killarney of the North Lough Muckno park and grounds make and ideal setting for this sporting spectacle.
The 750 m swim will take a course on the waters of Lough Muckno where the legendary Black Pig made his own entrance many years ago and thus give the name to the lake Muc Snaimh (the swimming pig).
The 20km Cycle will leave the Lough Muckno park to a route down one of the towns oldest streets formerly Noble Street now Muckno Street and enter the new backlands road exiting at the Glencarn Hotel and proceed along the N2 passing through the village of Annyalla to a turning point before the village of Clontibret and a return route back to Lough Muckno.
The 5km run takes a scenic route through the Black Island Forest taking in a mix of the old and new forest walks through the shadows of the tall trees that line this enchanting course.
In addition to individual performances the organisers are encouraging locals to form relay teams of male, female of mixed teams.
