Athletics Northern Ireland Paul McKee produced a disappointing run to finish fourth in 47.52 seconds in the 400 metres in Wednesday’s meeting in Salamanca.
McKee is chasing the Olympic A qualifying standard of 45.55 but he finished well behind Australian winner Sean Wroe (46.32).

Galway man Paul Hession won the 200m in a solid 20.55 and then took third in the 100m in 10.23.

Hession’s time in the shorter sprint was his second fastest ever 100m.

It was just .05secs outside his Irish record set last year.

Spain’s Angel David Rodriguez won the 100m in a national record 10.14 which left him ahead of European champion Francis Obikwelu (10.15).

Hession finished ahead of Britain’s Christian Malcolm (10.28) and the Irishman comfortably won the 200m ahead of the Welsh athlete (20.93).

Britain’s Louis Pearson (46.99) and Clinton Hill (47.20) of Australia completed the top three places in the 400m.

McKee, who set his season’s best of 46.63 in Oslo last month, will hope for better in Saturday’s meeting in Madrid.
