from A.A.I website St Michaels AC in Portarlington recently took delivery of a McDonalds Little Athletics pack from local RDO Pat Ryan. This was earned by their participation in the Athletic Leader course which was held in nearby Rosenallis.
There was great excitement when the pack was delivered and the young athletes proceeded to try out the new equipment. Bill Devereaux and Kevin O’Donnell who were kept very busy on the night by their young charges were satisfied that the equipment would assist them in running the “Little Athletics” programme.
The children followed up their inspection of the pack by participating in an agility challenge. This was a great success with many of the athletes attempting to beat the scores they had achieved at the McDonalds Jamboree held in Portlaoise last July.
One week later it was the turn of the Celbridge AC youngsters to undertake the agility challenge. Celbridge AC is a very progressive club with plenty of coaches who have completed the Athletics Leader course.
Tracy Minnock and Michael Tynan explained that the club often has in excess of 60 young athletes at the little athletics sessions and continues to grow. These young athletes certainly enjoyed themselves and some of them achieved very good results. The experience gained at the club agility challenge last March and the Kildare McDonalds Jamboree in June certainly paid off.
