A South Mayo woman will keep her promise to undertake a mammoth 100-mile challenge over 24 hours in aid of a local athletic club.

Having been forced to cancel the initial event, planned for December 27 last, due to Covid-19 restrictions, Anne Jennings from Ballinrobe will take on the unthinkable task of running 100 miles to help Lakes District Athletic Club raise funds to build a new athletics track at The Green in her home town.

The event has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 29 and to make it even more gruelling, the married mother of two will run her 100 miles continuously around The Green’s 800m long walking circuit.

Now living in Dublin, Anne will return home to begin her journey at 4pm and run throughout the night, hoping to reach her target by 4pm the following day.

Anne said: “We are delighted that we can now go ahead with the event. Hopefully as many as possible will join me. You can sign up for whatever distance you want. We can do 15 people together over an hour. If you want to run during the night, see the sunset or sunrise, do come and join me!”

If you cannot attend in person, the club are inviting you to partake virtually in whatever part of the world you are in and share your experience with Lake District Athletics Club on their Facebook page.
