from the Race Director Fergal O’Neill The second Elverys Maree 8 km road race took place on Sunday the 15th of February 2009 on a fine early spring afternoon. Over 340 contestants gathered at the Maree Community centre to begin the race on this challenging course. The men’s race was won by Tom Hall of Hillingdon AC outside London in a time of 27:14, followed by Mike Rice of Athenry AC in 27:59, with Denis Shanahan in third in 28:05. The women’s race was won by last year’s winner Ann Carter of Athenry AC in 31:51, second Eimear Butler in 32:47. Miriam Wall of Athenry AC taking third in 35:31 by overtaking Maureen Kennelly on the finishline. Many thanks to the participants, sponsors Elverys and volunteers without whom the event could not have taken place.
