Mangerton 9,60km / 700m climbing
Mangerton, Killarney, Co. Kerry
Follow the clearly defined rocky path up the open mountain. After about 3km, there is a Y-junction (in between two streams with a fence). Turn left here, heading straight across a bog to the Devil’s Punch Bowl (670m). The top point of your route is visible across the lake in front of you. Turn left at the lake and go clockwise around the it, with a steep climb upwards as you go to the east of the lake. Follow the path around the top of the crag overlooking the lake, enjoying the panoramic views! The actual summit of the mountain (839m) is on your left. Keep going clockwise around the lake, descending towards the stream coming off the lake, and follow the path back down to where you started
Registration will be in the carpark of Molly Darcy’s pub. This is on the left hand side of the Muckross Road (N71) coming from Killarney, just before a junction with a sign for Mangerton. To get to the race start, follow the sign for Mangerton at Molly Darcy’s, and take a further right turn (signposted) and park on the side of this road, just before a small concrete bridge.
This race is open to all and the cost is €10).
Please arrive at 12:00 to give time for race registration.
