Mageean and O’Hare Take Honours at Irish Schools XC

from Athletics Northern Ireland Ciara Mageean showed her class with a comfortable victory in the Senior Girls race at Jordanstown. The hot favourite led from the gun and had 15 seconds in hand over Eimear Black of Dominican at the end. Ciara also led her team,Assumption to the Bronze Medals.

James O’Hare followed up his Ulster success with another win over a classy field in the Senior Boys. . The St. Patrick’s Downpatrick pupil moved away from John Travers of Inchicore in the penultimate lap and crossed the line 17 seconds to the good. Dan King and Darren McBrearty led St. Eunan’s to Team Gold.

Ryan McDermott of Dromore High covered himself in glory by coming second in the Intermediate Boys behind holder Jake Byrne Cian O’Reilly from St.Pats,Cavan and Stephen Kerr of St.Pats Armagh were 3rd and 4th.

Joanne Mills of Shimna and Eva Laverty from Sacred Heart claimed Silver and Bronze in the Inter Girls behind Mary Mulhare of Portlaoise. Rachel and Nicole Clarke and Hannah Smyth combined to give Rainey Team Gold with Ballyclare third.

Ruari Finnegan of St. Eunans came third in the Junior Boys behind winner Conor Turner. Niall McKeever led St. Michael’s Enniskillen to Team triumph.

There was another Bronze for Our Lady’s,Newry in the Junior Girls with Orla McAteer and the Kincaid twins Maria and Victoria.

DCU had double success in the Irish Universities at the same venue. Brendan O’Neill and Brian Farrell led the Men with Linda Byrne taking the Ladies from Aoife Byrne of Trinity.
