Looking Forward

Enjoyed the trip over to Belfast for the nationals. It was a pity I was not able to compete, and it was a bit weird being on the sidelines to watch. Still it was worth the trip, and we got a session in on Saturday morning. Anyone at Mary Peters Track would have spotted me on the ground somewhere trying to recover from my session! I had missed a little bit of training due to the back injury, so I was probably feeling it a bit more than normal. Still it was good to do it and get back on track fully.

Training has gone well since. Put in some good track sessions, especially on Tuesday and Thursday. Starting to feel myself again and I’m going to work really hard in the next month. I think March will be a critical time to build up my hard lactic sessions, and I got a taste of what’s to come on Thursday! I’ve been doing some new rehab exercises since the injury and I’m starting to feel a bit more stable in my running. This is really important, especially when I start to bring in more speed. You know sometimes these little niggles can be a good wake-up call to refocus on some of the more fundamental things, and I’m hoping that’s the case this time around!

Anyway, after doing a little bit for the OB Sports highlights show last weekend, RTE have asked me to join them for their live show for the European Indoors. Think I will be on the Saturday, so it should be a bit of craic! It gives me a good excuse to get back to Ireland for a few days too.

I’m going to head straight to Galway from Dublin as I’ve been asked to attend the opening of a new sports shop in Oranmore called Amphibian King. It sounds a little bit more than just your average store though, and they even provide gait analysis direct to their customers in store. One of my bugbears is that modern ‘sports’ shops are not true to their name anymore. They are more like casual clothing stores, and it’s too difficult to get proper apparel. So I always like to hear of stores like Amphibian King doing well! I believe I will be there from 2:30 to 4:30pm on Sunday, 6th March. It would be good if a few local people could come along, and I’m free to answer any questions about my training. As my family know too well I don’t get home to Athenry as often as I used to, so looking forward to that!

I have a day off tomorrow, so looking forward to a chill-out day. I’m a bit of an election anorak so I will have my ears glued to the Irish radio stations to see who has earned the unenviable task of trying to put the country back together!
