Urban Run participants get set for fast times A new event for the local running calendar was announced recently at the launch of the inaugural Urban Run to be held at St Michael’s Rowing Club in Limerick City on this Sunday 29th September at 1pm. Located on the Clare side of the Shannon Banks, just beneath the Shannon Bridge in Limerick, St Michael’s Club House provides an ideal location to host this event which will start and finish nearby on O’Callaghan Strand. These 10k and 5k events are open to runners, walkers and wheel-chair athletes. The 10k run is chip-timed, and with valid claims to be the flattest 10k route in Munster, is set to attract athletes of all abilities looking to improve on PB times. Road closures will facilitate an unhindered run for those who are competing for the overall and category prizes. Limerick Country Club AC are partners for the event and it is AAI permitted to facilitate AAI athletes, who will be challenged for top honours by elite athletes from Limerick Rowing clubs, including former World Champion Rowers Sinead Jennings and Sam Lynch of SMRC (pictured).
St Michael’s offer many free-of-charge features to participants, including shower facilities, cloak-room facilities, off-road parking, refreshments after the race, physio access, goodie-bags for all participants, cash prizes for top three male & female and category winners, best-team award and spot prizes for others, etc. Exclusive sport-tec t-shirts may be ordered in advance by online entrants.
Entry fees are €15 for the chip-timed run, €10 for the 5k run/walk and the 10k walk, and €5 for juniors. Enter on Run Ireland or via the event’s website on www.smrc.ie/urbanrun where further details may also be obtained. Late entry on the morning of the event is also facilitated. Online entry closes on Saturday evening but registration can be done in person at St Michael’s Club House on the morning of the event, from 10am until around noon. The event will start at 1pm sharp.
