Lifford Athletic Club is delighted to announce the launch of a three race 5k series which will be held over three weekends in January. Following on from the success of its recent Fit4Life 5k race and fun run in the town just prior to Christmas, the Lifford club will host a series of races/fun runs in three different towns starting in St. Johnston/Carrigans on Sunday the 15th January, moving to Raphoe on Sunday 22nd, and culminating in Lifford on Sunday 29th January (start time 10am for all races).
For most people, the New Year traditionally brings a menu of resolutions with getting fit, losing weight, or becoming more active at the top of the starters list. The New Year also sees either a resumption of sporting activity for clubs or the start of pre season training for the likes of football and other sporting clubs. To meet these challenges and to meet the demands of runners, joggers and walkers across the club’s wide catchment area, the hosting of three races early in the year is a welcome addition to the road racing calendar. The fact that three different venues are being used, it not only brings a race to the heart of the local communities, but it gives athletes a unique challenge across a different course each week.
The Lifford 5k in June has proved one of the most popular on the road racing circuit, with ever increasing numbers taking part each year. In 2011, the club was involved in the organisation of a 5k in Raphoe, the first of its kind in the town and big numbers taking part. In December, the club hosted a further 5k in Lifford, around a different route which attracted a large numbers of runners, joggers and walkers. The St.
Johnston/Carrigans race will be a first for the club, with the Foyle river providing a picturesque backdrop to the areas first such race. With large numbers of club athletes from and a rich sporting culture in the Raphoe, Carrigans and St. Johnston areas, the club is delighted to bring road races into the heart of these towns. Well organised races, accurate timing, quality prizes and post race hospitality have been the cornerstones of our success in recent years, and the club looks forward to bringing all these qualities to the three towns in January.
For individuals running all three races, points will be awarded across a range of junior, senior and masters categories, with prizes presented at the end of the three race series in Lifford on January 29th. So if you’re looking to dust down the cobwebs after Christmas, start your pre season training, or simply are up for a new challenge, Lifford AC looks forward to seeing you in January. Cost only €5 per races.
