The KNOCKNACURRA 7 MILE ROAD RACE will take place on Sunday, 7th June @ 12 noon from
Kilmacsimon Community Centre
(located approx. 4 miles outside of Bandon).
This event is in memory of 3 local athletes – Patsy O’Flynn (Olympic Silver Medallist at Antwerp Games, 1920), Bob Hales (National & International Athlete 1911-1912) and Bill Nolan (Ireland [v] Scotland International 1 Mile Champion 1931).
Kilmacsimon Swimming & Rowing Club
are hosting this event.
RACE COURSE This 7 Mile Road Race will start approx. 100 metres from the entrance of Kilmacsimon Community Centre on the Ballinadee side, proceeding to 7 Crosses where the course branches off onto the lower quay Road (lower Rd to Bandon) passing the homesteads of Patsy O’Flynn, Bob Hales & Bill Nolan. There is a very gradual climb on this road for approx. 2 miles until you come to Hales X.
From here on its a very comfortable run for approx. 3 miles. At Balwins Bridge there is another gradual climb for approx 1 mile on the main Ballinadee/Bandon Road until you reach Browns X . Take a left at this cross, and looping back onto Hales X & down the lower quay road where you finish at the entrance to Kilmacsimon Community Centre. Overall it is a very pleasant route and should be pleasing to most participants.
There will be two water stations along the route.
Refreshments and changing facilities will be provided at Kilmacsimon Community Centre.
Parking Facilities will be provided at Community Centre and in field opposite Centre.
For Insurance purposes, individuals must be 18 years & over to enter. Entries will also be taken on the morning of race in Community Centre from 10am – 11.30am.
