The inaugural Kinnitty Castle Half Marathon is scheduled for Saturday November 27th. at 11 a.m.
The course has been designed to ensure the minimum impact of hills in order to add to the enjoyment of participation and the occasion in general . A map of the course is available on site which outlines start/finish together with water stations .
Registration for the event is via the runireland website and the closing date for registration is November 25 th .
The race will cater for both male and female participants in all categories walkers, joggers to the elite .
The local G.A.A. club has kindly agreed to provide parking and showering facilities a short distance from the village .Race numbers and timing chips to be collected by participants at the Kinnitty GAA club between 9 am and 10.30 on Saturday November 27.
Karl Henry of Operation Transformation will deliver a 30 minute talk on health and fitness at 4 pm in Kinnitty Castle on Saturday 27.
Water stations will be arranged at 2 mile intervals around the course . Medical personnel will be in attendance and the local boy scouts have agreed to assist on the day .
Friends of Offaly Hospice can use the event to participate and also raise funds through sponsorship cards as arranged through the Offaly Hospice Committee .
The event will be held in the picturesque village of Kinnitty with many scenic features along the one circuit route .
The race will be timed using chip and pin system through Precision Timing .
All finishers will be presented with a Tee Shirt , a medal.
A goody bag will be presented to the first 300 entrants .
The event has an AAI permit and the course carries an AAI Road Measurement Certificate.
Kinnitty Castle as the main Sponsor has kindly sponsored three vouchers of one night’s accomodation (for 2 people) in one of the Baronic suites in the Castle together with champagne and strawberries on arrival, dinner and a Spa treatment .
The winner of the male and female section will each receive one of these vouchers .
The third voucher will be raffled among all participants with the lucky winner receiving this outstanding prize valued at circa Eur 350 .
The Sports Surgery Clinic have kindly sponsored two VO2 Max Tests which will be undertaken at the state of the art facility in Santry, Dublin. Cash prizes will be presented to second and third in both male and female categories .
As the main sponsor Kinnitty Castle has assembled a very attractive accomodation package for participants and supporters .
A pre race overnight stay to ensure best preparation for the race or alternatively a post race stay to enjoy the party atmosphere and allow recuperation for tired limbs . To ensure the best of both worlds a weekend package is also available on request .
