Kilkenny Triathlon Club is delighted to announce the launch of its first ever open event – The KTC 2012 Duathlon at Mount Juliet! The race itself will consist of a 3km run within Mount Juliet, a 19km cycle through the surrounding towns and then back into Mount Juliet for the final 3km run. For those new to the multi-disciplinary world of triathlon, a duathlon offers a fantastic way to dip your toe, so whether you are an experienced triathlete looking for a personal best or you’re taking on your very first challenge, this event will prove the perfect setting for it!

 

RACE INFO
This is not a Triathlon Ireland sanctioned race so you do not need a Triathlon Ireland License or a One-Day License to take part in the event. Please note you must be aged over 18 on the day of the event to be allowed take part.

The race will be a timing chip event and prizes will be on offer to the Top 3 finishing Males, Females and the Top finishing Relay Team.

 

COURSE INFO
Run Course
The run legs takes place in the very scenic grounds of the Mount Juliet Estate and shall be on good quality internal roads. The 2nd run will be the same course as the 1st run. The run takes entrants out over the very scenic bridge in the grounds, allowing for some great views of the Mount Juliet Estate. The run shall be testing in places, finishing with an undulating finish to help spread out the field. There will be a nutrition stand on the 2nd Run giving out water at the turnaround point (roughly 1.5km into the run). Please note, there will be no water on the first run.

Cycle Course
The cycle leg exits Mount Juliet through the Oldtown entrance to the grounds. On exiting competitors will take a right towards Stoneyford; turn sharply left at the school and then complete a 19km looped course coming back in through the Equestrian entrance. Caution should be taken going through the town of Knocktopher and travelling around the roundabout. The course itself is relatively flat, with 2 notable climbs; a hill at the start of the route as you exit Mount Juliet which shall help stretch out the field and a short, steep climb around kilometre 16 as you turn onto Jerpoint Hill. The road surface is of a good quality.

ONLINE ENTRY
Online entry for the event opens Wednesday 1st February and shall close online Midnight, Tuesday 6th March. Please note that there is strictly no entry allowed on the day so please ensure to have your entry in before it closes online. The race is open for 150 Individual racers and 5 Relay teams (which must be made up of only 2 people per team). Individual entry is €21.50 and Relay entry is €32.50

 

RACE TIMETABLE
Friday 9th March
7-9pm – Early Race Registration at the Watershed Leisure Centre, Kilkenny

Please note entrants must register in person and please ensure to bring the email confirmation of your entry to the race and some form of I.D. This registration is open to all race entrants and all KTC Members are asked to try attend Friday registration

 

Saturday 10th March
9.30am – Late Registration on Race Morning
9.35am – Transition area opens
10.30am – Race Marshal briefing
11am – Registration closes sharply. Please ensure to be on-site on time
11am – Race Marshals in place
11.10am – Transition area closes
11.15am – Race briefing by Race Director
11.30am – Race start
12.30pm – Post race refreshments on offer
1.15pm – Transition area re-opens for entrants to collect their equipment
1.30pm – Event Cut-Off time
TBC – Prize giving ceremony time to be confirmed. This will take place in Mount Juliet
